Pros of Standardized Testing

Summary: This article talks about three main benefits to standardized testing. The first is that they show a students/teachers/schools strengths and weaknesses. Second the tests are designed to provide information to organizations like colleges and jobs. Thirdly they induce a change in behavior among students and teachers motivating them to work harder.

Summary: This article shows that there is some good in standardized testing and looks at different scenarios on how it could be useful. It showed that even if the tests were very subject to following the method in which they thought classes should be taught that a good teacher would still have good scores among their students. This article reviews how many parents could use this to analyze their students and see if students could be slipping behind while still having decent grades. The No Child Left Behind act would of been very helpful in specific areas such as inner city schools where teachers could be there to just waive their students loans or whether they were just showing up for a paycheck assuming the children wouldn’t be learning anything anyway. This article just gave a different viewpoint on how standardized testing could be beneficial.
